Things That German Can Teach You About Leopard 2 Main Battle Tank

Leopard 2 MBT, Main Battle Tank

Though the name of Leopard 1 tank was just Leopard when it joined the German army in 1963 but with the birth of Leopard 2 in 1971, original Leopard was named as Leopard 1. The work on Leopard 2 was started in 1971 and it entered the German military in 1979. Leopard 2 was the result of the hard work of the same engineers who developed the Leopard 1.
Leopard 1 was not good enough because it was lacking in the separate periscope for the commander and in automatic loading of the ammunition. It was also not armored with the cast steel. So there was a need for such a tank that can perform well and survive on the battlefield. Thus, the production of the Leopard 2 main battle tank was started.
When the Germans were manufacturing Leopard 2 MBT, then at that time the Americans were constructing their own main battle tank, M1 Abrams. Thus, the competition of German Leopard tank vs American Abrams tank was going on that time.
