This humble and courageous boy went to the Pakistan military academy in November 1974. After 2-year training in the PMA Kakul, he passed out on 18, October 1976 in the 54 PMA Long Course.
In October 1976, he became the second lieutenant and was sent to the 6-battalion of Frontier Force regiment. 6 battalion of Frontier force regiment was also the battalion of his elder brother Major Shabbir Sharif.
After 6 months, two pips placed on his shoulders and he became the lieutenant in April 1977.
He was awarded the rank of captain after 2.5 years in October 1979.
Exactly after 5 years, in October 1984 he became major. During his life as major, he served as Adjutant in the Pakistan military academy.
As only 70% of the Majors gain this rank of lieutenant colonel, Raheel Sharif made his journey to this rank in just 8.5 years. This was May 1993 when he was promoted to this rank. He also served as the Commanding Officer (CO) of the 6 FF regiment.
Only 50 % lieutenant colonels get the rank of colonel. After remaining 6 years as a lieutenant colonel, he was promoted to the rank of the colonel in July 1999.
This rank of the a few officers is achieved by Raheel Sharif in less than 2 years. He was appointed as Brigadier in June 2001. The army Brigade is commanded by the brigadier. During Raheel Sharif life as brigadier, he commanded two different infantry brigades from 2001 to 2006. He also worked as the military secretary during this time.
In February 2006, Raheel Sharif was promoted to the rank of the major general. The major general holds the position of General Officer Commanding (GOC) and he is in charge of a Division. As a GOC, he commanded the infantry division in Lahore from 2006 to 2008. He was then appointed as the Commandant of the PMA kakul from 2008 to 2010.
In April 2010, the rank of lieutenant general which is restricted to just 30 officers of the Pak army, gained by this hard working man. He served as the Corps Commander of the Gujranwala Corps from 2010 to 2012. For the next one year, he was appointed as the Inspector General For training and Evaluation for the Pak army.
